Password Management & Identity Management software- Terminology

Terminologies used will often mean different things to different people. Enterprise User Administration (EUA), Single sign-on (single signon & SSO), single log-on (single logon), single log-in (single login) consistent sign-on (consistent signon & CSO), password synchronisation (password synchronization, password sync, password synch), software for Role based access control (RBAC), User provisioning, User management, Identity Management (IdM), Access control management (ISO 10181 & in particular ISO 10181-3) Access Control are all terms that may be used and also assist in compliance with BS7799 & ISO 17799 & user admin as well as other compliance and regulatory requirements. However it is widely recognised that the core components in most solutions that will offer the best combination of ease of implementation & rapid ROI are password synchronisation (SecurPass:Sync) & password reset (SecurPass:Reset).
 
Single signon & user provisioning tools appear to offer attractive solutions. However in many instances the difficulties in implementation & costs will not justify the investment in time, effort & money when compared to SecurPass.
