Security Solutions - Secure Data Transfers for the Enterprise

CFI PLATFORM SERVER: Secure File Transfer across LAN, WAN & the internet offering encryption & security, reliability & guaranteed delivery, management & automation, audit & control. We offer cost saving migration from competitor products such as Connect:Direct which is supported with useful tools. The standard for moving information safely, easily, and quickly from anywhere to anywhere and may be used as part of a VPN, ERP, EAI or ETL software solution for secure file transfers as well as in disaster recovery, data archive, electronic document and record management, backup & restore operations etc (see Uses). Enhanced File Transfer and the various methods of data encryption and management tools offer many advantages when compared to Secure FTP (SFTP) or Secure Shell (SSH). Platform coverage includes all common platforms used in the enterprise today.

Enhanced Processing Options

CFI offers post-processing and post-action options, allowing users to automatically invoke other programs and processes before or after file transfer.    In addition to Event Monitoring, CFI offers other processing features to allow users to pass executable commands and invoke additional processes.  This feature offers greater flexibility than user-exits, using parameters and argument substitution. The user defines an executable, and specifies if it will function locally or remotely, the command to be executed, as well any parameters that need to be substituted into the command for processing.

Providing More Than Just File Transfer

CFI does not just transfer files from one disk to another.  CFI allows users either to send files to remote printers, run a command on a remote system or have a remote system submit the file as a job on that remote system.  Proginet refers to these options as follows: File to File, File to Print, File to Job, and File to Command.

Dynamic File Allocation / Creation

When transferring files over to remote systems, it is necessary to be able to ensure that the correct file is being updated. In addition to working in conjunction with the operating system security to ensure that a user has access to the file they are trying to update, CFI has a number of other built-in capabilities to ensure a file is not overwritten unintentionally.  You have the ability both to specify your understanding of the current status of the file in question and to have CFI check this before continuing.

Supported Transport Protocols

For most modern networks TCP/IP is the primary transport protocol due to its almost universal coverage.  For enterprise systems it is often appropriate to also run with the SNA protocol.  CFI supports both TCP/IP and SNA , running both protocols simultaneously, which allows you to communicate with nodes running different protocols, or migrate from one protocol to another.  CFI supports two different SNA Gateways: either the Microsoft SNA Server or IBM?s Communications Server.

Text file translation

CFI can treat transfers as binary or text.  For text transfers CFI will handle UNIX and DOS/Windows formats appropriately, converting between carriage return (CR) and carriage return-line feed (CRLF).  Translation between ASCII and EBCDIC completes the text processing options.

Mainframe Dataset support

The mainframe dataset options provide a challenge when transferring to non mainframe systems.  CFI makes this simple for PDS, VSAM and GDG's.  PDS libraries can be transferred in entirety, or as individual members, with wildcard selection.  The target can be a directory where members will be stored.  GDG transfers allow for specific generation to be specified.  VSAM datasets can be loaded from text files, and transferred as text or binary.  All this can be achieved using a workstation GUI or the familiar ISPF interface, in addition to comprehensive batch and API options.

Directory Transfers and Wildcard Support

CFI users are able to send and receive entire directories and subdirectories, and use wildcards for ease of file selection.  Users may 'TEST' their selection before transferring by viewing a print out of all local and remote file names to be transferred in a directory.  If Checkpoint restart is selected and a transfer fails, CFI will restart transfer at the interrupted file, not the entire directory.  Transferring entire directories will not affect normal CFI performance, as files transfer sequentially.

CFI Wildcard support {symbols *,?} allows users to conduct searches for files on Windows, UNIX or OS/390 systems.  Users can try any combination and amount of symbols and alpha numeric characters to narrow down their search for files.  This feature eliminates the need for users to know exact file names.  Wildcarding makes it easy to filter through directories and choose files for transfer.

Multiple Code Pages for Translation between systems, preservation of national language characters

This feature allows the user to be able to specify which conversion code page should be used for an individual transfer and also to be able to convert the files transferred between different code pages on the sender or the receiver end. Feature available on all platforms, initiator and responder sides. The user can translate the file by specifying a file on the initiator file and optionally specify another parameter, which will contain the path of a file on the remote side. This file will be used to perform translation on the remote side. Two types of translation are supported:

  • ASCII - ASCII - typically used when files are transferred between different countries/languages
  • ASCII - EBCIDIC - used when files are transferred to/from the mainframe

Alias Feature

The Alias feature allows the user to associate an alias file name with an actual fully qualified file name. The end user has no idea of the actual file name used by the system. Additionally, there are substitutable parameters that can be used to assign values to the file names. For example, an Administrator can define the systems file name to be any combination of the User's ID, the Transaction Number, system name, time, date or node name. This facility is usable on the responding side of the transaction, and is supported on all CFI platforms.

Substitutable Parameters in Post Processing

CFI supports Substitutable Parameters to allow users to take full advantage of the 64 character maximum on the command data, and to allow users to not have to copy the filename from the LocalFileName or RemoteFileName parameters.

Delete, Rename, Exist Utility

When a file transfer completes, the user may want to perform some action such as renaming or deleting a file. Since all CFI platforms have a different command to perform this action, Proginet has developed a utility to allow CFI to use a common interface to rename or delete files.
